Our vision for Giving Sight
A world with universal access to eye care services and solutions for those in need.
Our mission for Giving Sight
1.2 billion people need our help to see.
Communities around the world suffer from unnecessary blindness or vision impairment simply because they don’t have access to eye exams and appropriate glasses. Optometry Giving Sight aims to permanently solve this problem by focusing on support for sustainable solutions in underserved communities.
With the generous support of donors, Optometry Giving Sight focuses on the following initiatives:

Train
Provide training for local eye care professionals

Establish
Establish optometry schools, vision centers and optical labs

Deliver
Deliver eye exams and low or no-cost glasses
Our History of Giving Sight
Optometry Giving Sight was established in 2003 as a joint initiative of the World Council of Optometry, the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness and the Brien Holden Vision Institute to address the debilitating problem of vision impairment world-wide.
With the support of the optometry industry, optometry professionals, patients and donors, Optometry Giving Sight funds programs to deliver desperately needed vision care, train local eye care professionals, and develop sustainable infrastructure in developing countries.
Optometry Giving Sight established offices in the United States and Canada in 2007, and continues to operate with the vision of its three founders.
